What Really Pisses me OFF! (Israel has hyjacked US Foreign Policy)

Americans act like the Israel is another state of the UNION. Israel spends millions managing US politicians and influencing our foreign policy. They dont pay taxes, they dont vote but they act like our interests are the same as there interests. Israel needs to stand on its own two feet and American politicians should only serve the American people that elect them. If they want to become Americans then I am happy to do their fighting until then they should be encouraged to become independant. I have nothing against Israel but America is running out of money and we wont be able to afford this level of spending forever. This is a fact of life America has +40 trillion in unfunded liabilites as our population ages we wont be able to afford to maintain the same military capability in 5 years. We owe to the Israelies to tell them now so they can prepare.

lTwo professors from Harvard University and the University of Chicago have just released an 81-page study on "The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy" that concludes that the "overall thrust of U.S. policy in the [Middle East] is due almost entirely to U.S. domestic politics, and especially to the activities of the 'Israel Lobby.'"The study is currently available as a Harvard "working paper" with extensive footnotes or as a shorter version published in the London Review of Books. The authors systematically examine the facts of the U.S.-Israel relationship, concluding that Israel is neither a strategic asset nor a "compelling moral case for sustained U.S. backing," and point a finger squarely at the Israel lobby for "[managing] to divert U.S. foreign policy as far from what the American national interest would otherwise suggest, while simultaneously convincing Americans that U.S. and Israeli interests are essentially identical."

The authors examine the entire scope of the Israel lobby's efforts, from its intimidation of the press, think tanks and academia into presenting a misleading image of Israel to its success at co-opting the Congress and the Executive Branch into implementing Israel's policy aims. The paper is significant not just for its substance but also for the fact that it was published at all. The authors note in their section on the lobby's intimidation of the press: "Newspapers occasionally publish guest op-eds challenging Israeli policy, but the balance of opinion clearly favours the other side. It is hard to imagine any mainstream media outlet in the United States publishing a piece like this one."Stephen Walt is Academic Dean and Professor of International Affairs at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

His latest book is "Taming American Power: The Global Response to U.S. Primacy" (W. W. Norton & Co., 2005). According to his faculty website, he has previously worked at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and as a Guest Scholar at the Brookings Institution, in addition to consulting for the Institute of Defense Analyses, the Center for Naval Analyses, and the National Defense University.John Mearsheimer is a Professor of Political Science and the co-director of the Program on International Security Policy at the University of Chicago, where he is an authority on security affairs and international politics. He graduated from West Point in 1970 and served five years as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. Both authors previously wrote "An Unnecessary War," which argued against invading Iraq, in the January/February 2003 edition of Foreign Policy magazine.

Great site. I would love to hear you write on the word "disenfranchised". I'm sick of people using that word as an excuse for everything they do (or don't do) in their lives. Aren't you???

When I first started blogging I would try to read everything I could. I would go to Israpundit trying to get the Israli view. Finally I got sick to my stomach. It was just an "America Bashing" day after day. Everything that is wrong with Israel is America's fault and specificaly Bush's fault. Now, unless I'm wrong, Israel had a few problems BEFORE Bush got into office and BEFORE America even existed, didn't they? heh I'm sick of everything being our fault. Write for me, Old Man.

Right Truth

You dont worry about spelling to much when you find it hard to see the words :)

Its ridiculous when I went to war Israel didnt exist, where the fuck did we get into our heads that we were here to fight another countries battles for them. We give them $3b a year in aid and we fight every single conflict for them and it PISSES ME OFF BIG TIME !

We are getting based because we are not showing leadership. If you look at our country from the outside we have allowed liberals to turn the country into a whore house.

I was in Hong Kong last year to visit my grandson and all you could watch on TV was pornography and filth from the USA. What are the supposed to think when all they get from us is some guy doing DNA tests to find it which boyfriend fathered some guys child (cant remember the name of the show), the bashing of America is a marketing thing , we pump out our dirty linen all over the world and we get surprised when they think we are all like the folk on Springer (that guy should go to jail) and the stations lic should be cancelled.

Israel might be a fine country but it aint a State of the Union . We wouldnt even get into WW2 until the bombed Pearl Harbor now we fight anywhere anyone asks and borrow the money to do it.

That really pisses me off!

I must say you made two very valid statements in your last comment section that I absolutely agree with: "We have allowed liberals to turn this country into a whore house," and your comment about Springer. He absolutely "should" go to jail. He's trash of the worst sort!

Regarding Israel, I must do more research. I've been thinking that the best way for us to save money is to stop aid to countries who won't, and don't, back us. There are so many of them that receive funding from us. I didn't realize though, that Israel was busy bashing us. Guess I need to read up. Don't have time right now, but I will get on it asap! :)

From what I've been reading, 9/11 was motivated by huge resentment from the arab world of the U.S. financing of Israel since the second world war.

I suppose it would be pretty hard for a palestinian not to make the connection between the expensive weapons the Israelis have at their disposable, and the source of the money that paid for them.

You also have to know that there was no palestinian people when you went to war as well. The Arab League created them as an excuse to not deal with them. Syria and Jordan killed over a million of them, remember Arafat hiding in Beirut dressed as a woman?

Israel at least is a huge buffer from the fanatics over there. We actually gain a lot of intelligence from them, as well. Russia has been supplying the Arabs since after the second big war, so we did the same with Israle. And good or bad, they have proven to be much more reliable than any Arab antion.

So in that respect I say we could support them. However, I get pissed off at America bashing from anyone, especially those we help out. I say we let them deal with the terrorists as they want to and not under our auspices. Get some decent return on our

yes Starfish , that close to my thoughts I have nothing against Israel but your right from my point of view these regions didnt exist until the late 60's, I knwo they existed before then but you never heard much about them. Now we have the entire US military tied up there and it might because

I still worry more about the Chinese and Russians as a threat. I worry that weakening ourselves in the middle east then having a real threat erupt, if we go near to bankruptsy and weaken our resolve I wouldnt be surprised to see the Chinese go after Taiwan.

I also think that the Israeli's need to be put under pressure to resolve these middle east issues. That wont happen while we keep picking up the tab.

and fuck the Palestianians. Not even the arabs want them.
